GIGABYTE to Showcase Lineup of New Motherboards

Posted by mylow on June 5, 2008

GIGABYTE United is set to showcase its range of new motherboards for Intel and AMD CPUs. On display at Computex will be the live demo of GIGABYTE’s flagship P45 motherboard, the GA-EP45-EXTREME that is designed for extreme overclocking.  Based on the latest Intel P45 chipset with support for Intel multi-core processors up to FSB 1600MHz, the motherboard makes one supports ATI CrossFireX Technology with 2 PCI Express 2.0 x 8 interfaces, and dual LAN.

The GA-EP45-EXTREME is also equipped with GIGABYTE’s unique Hybrid Silent-Pipe slot cooling system which utilizes the natural convection of air inside and outside the chassis to dramatically and noiselessly cool down the North Bridge, South Bridge and CPU MOSFETs without the use of a fan. The GIGABYTE Hybrid Silent-Pipe can also be used with water block cooling systems for additional enhanced thermal performance.

Also on display will be the GIGABYTE GA-EG45M-DS2H, an integrated graphics solution based on the Intel G45 chipset. It is meant for building digital home theater systems and features the latest GIGABYTE Dynamic Energy Saver technology and Ultra Durable 2 design, providing optimized power savings, ultra cooling performance and extended system durability.

On the AMD side, the GA-MA790GP-DS4H features AMD 790GX chipset with integrated ATI Radeon HD 3300 DirectX 10 graphics engine and support for the latest AMD Phenom quad-core processors including a 4+1 phase power design to support 125W TDP and above processors.

In addition to support for HDMI 1.3, DVI and HDCP interfaces, the GA-MA790GP-DS4H includes support for ATI’s Hybrid CrossFireX and CrossFireX technology as well as dedicated 128MB DDR3 SidePort memory. GIGABYTE also includes the ALC889A high performance audio codec and powerful Dolby Home Theater suite of audio technologies making it suitable for ultimate home theater usage.

GIGABYTE Ultra Secure and Ultra Power Efficient Technologies

New GIGABYTE Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced
According to GIGABYTE, its new Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced provides better energy saving capabilities and enhanced system performance. The company says, GIGABYTE Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced is the world’s only motherboard energy saving technology with hardware-based Dynamic 6-Gear* Switching. With support for VRD 11.1, GIGABYTE’s DES Advanced allows the motherboard to switch to 1 Gear phase switching during idle, allowing for a dramatic increase in power savings.

Ultra TPM – Dta Security via onboard TPM

With a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip built-in, GIGABYTE provides TPM hardware-based encryption and decryption with digital signature keys to ensure a maximum level of data protection with 2048 bit encryption. GIGABTE’s Ultra TPM provides an added layer of security by allowing users to store their digital signature key on a USB thumb drive, so that when they step away from their system, they can take the key with them, locking up their data and preventing unauthorized access while they are away.

Gigabyte products are distributed in India by Avnet (India), Ingram Micro and Redington. The Gigabyte GA-EP45-EXTREME is priced at Rs. 21,000.

Sun to Tout Hosting Platform

Posted by mylow on April 11, 2008

Sun will discuss on Thursday a research and development project intended to provide a hosting platform for delivering Internet-based services.

Called Project Caroline, the technology is on the agenda of a Sun Labs Open House taking place at Sun offices in Menlo Park, California. The platform comprises a programmatically configurable pool of virtualized compute, storage, and networking resources, according to Sun.

The Project Caroline Web page states that the project is designed to serve an emerging market of small and medium-sized SaaS providers.

“Anticipating needs driven by new SaaS business models and processes, Project Caroline helps SaaS providers develop services rapidly using high-level programming languages like the Java programming language, Ruby, Python, and Perl to update in-production services frequently and to automatically flex their use of platform resources to match changing runtime demands,” the Web page states.

Services can programmatically allocate, monitor, and control virtualized compute, storage, and networking resources via Project Caroline. Interfaces are featured for managing platform resources.

Developers can build services that update and flex platform resources usage. Project Caroline resources are exposed via high-level abstractions, including virtual machines, networks, and network-accessible file systems and databases. A horizontally scaled pool of distributed resources is presented as a single system to provide developers with a unified platform for allocating and controlling resources.

Also on the Open House agenda are OMS, pertaining to a royalty-free media system; Project Live, approaching software distribution and configuration by combining the firmware model with customization; and the Lively Kernel project for Web programming.

Other agenda items include: Project Wonderland, an open-source toolkit for building 3D virtual worlds for business and education collaboration; Project Darkstar, which is a gaming server; and Project MiRTLE (Mixed Reality Teaching and Learning Environment).

Sharp Launches New Multimedia Projectors

Posted by mylow on April 3, 2008

Sharp launched their new series of multimedia projectors — XR-40X/XR-30X/XR-30S facilitating long-lasting high-quality performance with easy operation. Its advanced optoelectronics technology maximizes light output, providing crystal clear images at high brightness.

The Sharp Notevision XR-40 and XR-30 Series projectors are built to handle most business, education or cinema projection requirements. They utilize the Texas Instruments DDR DLP display technology in combination with TrueVision (DDP2000) image processing.

The Condenser Lens Optical System provides 2200:1 contrast ratio (2000:1 in XR-30S), along with crisp, bright and detailed images from both computer and video sources. Powerful standard features like DVI-D input, short-throw zoom lens, HDTV compatibility and up to 3,000-hour lamp life.

To enhance color accuracy, the XR Educator XR-30 and XR-40 Series incorporates a 3X speed (maximum) color wheel which ensures that all projected images are uniform and void of the rainbow effect common in other projectors . Also, the non-contact Fluid Dynamics Bearings for the high-speed rotating color wheel axle have a longer lifespan.

Its light weighs 6.4 lbs. (2.9 kg), so that one can easily carry it to their home theater room and view DVDs on a large screen or even bring the projector along with them to provide business presentations by connecting it to the computer.

These projectors optical mechanism is sealed in its structure, which prevents dust, dirt, and smoke from entering core parts of the optics to a much greater degree than LCD projectors. The system also needs no filter and less maintenance, resulting in lower cost of ownership and longer use.

Full digital projection with the DVI input terminal and DLP system enables virtually noise-free images from digital sources. The terminal also complies with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) to support digital video content in high-definition.

Projectors can be connected to DVD players, cable or satellite boxes, laptop and desktop computers, HDTV tuners, VCRs and video game consoles

Projectors also feature Direct Power Off (Instant Off), Spot light function, GUI Pointer (non IR image pointer), Theft Deterrent “System Lock”, Quick start within 3 seconds.

The XR-40X is priced at Rs. 85,000,  XR-30X is priced at Rs 59,000 and XR-30S is priced at Rs 47,000. These are available at all Sharp’s dealer outlets and through all I.T. channels across India.
